6-Week Get a Grip Program

As we age, we may experience a decline in our hand strength and range of motion, or begin to experience pain, which can affect our ability to perform everyday tasks and activities that we enjoy. This can be frustrating and can impact our quality of life. That's where Apricus Health's 6-week Hand Therapy program comes in.

Our program is run once a week over the course of 6 weeks by our Occupational Therapists and is designed to help you reduce hand pain without medication and improve your ability to carry out daily tasks such as opening jars, turning keys, and getting dressed. Improving grip also allows continued pursuit of leisure activities such as golf, tennis or craft.

Week 1: The first step of the program is identifying the cause of your hand concerns, assess your level of pain, range of motion and strength, and educate you about your condition. Our occupational therapists will then work with you to identify specific goals they would like to achieve during the program.

Week 2-6: Our therapists will review your concerns and provide strategies for managing hand pain. They may recommend modifications to your environment or suggest tips for activities. Hands on treatment will provide further relief through joint and soft tissue massage Your therapist may prescribe equipment such as splints, braces, or gloves to support the hand and reduce pain.

A custom program that includes exercises to improve grip strength, hand mobility, and dexterity will be designed by your therapist. The program will be challenging but not overwhelming, and our therapists will provide ongoing support and encouragement.

Throughout the program, our occupational therapist will monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.

At the end of the 6 weeks, our therapist will evaluate your progress and review your goals, if needed they will discuss further recommendations to optimise your hand health.
